Barraud, Henry (1900-1997)

French composer. He studied first at Bordeaux and later at the Paris Conservatory with Caussade, Dukas, and Aubert. He was expelled from the conservatory as a bad influence, but later in life turned to religion. In 1937 he was in charge of the music at the Paris World Fair; he then joined the radio service, where he rose to the post of head of the national programme in 1948.

three symphonies; piano concerto.

Oratorio

Les Mystères des Saints Innocents (1947).

cantatas and other choral works, including La Divine Comédie, after Dante, for five solo voices and orchestra (1972).

Chamber

woodwind trio, string trio, string quartet (1940), violin and piano sonata; piano music.

Other

songs; film and radio music.
