Barry, Sebastian (1955– )

Irish novelist, poet, and dramatist, born in Dublin and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. His material is set in Ireland and the USA and deals with themes of isolation and abandonment against the backdrop of recent history. Barry's novels include Macker's Garden (1982), The Engine by Owl-Light (1987), and The Whereabouts of Eneas McNulty (1998), while his poems include the collections The Water-Colourist (1983) and The Rhetorical Town (1985). His plays include Boss Grady's Boys (1988), The Steward of Christendom (1995), and Hinterland (2002).
