Barrymore, Maurice (1849-1905)

US stage actor. Father of Ethel, John, and Lionel Barrymore, he gave up a possible law career, to begin acting in 1872. Barrymore was an instant success in New York in and he went on to star in a variety productions. In 1876 he married Georgiana Drew, actor-daughter of the famous British-American actors, John and Louisa Lane Drew, thus founding what would become known as ‘The Royal Family of Broadway’.
