    0.01 sec.

Bartholomew, Harry Guy (1885–1962)

English journalist. Bartholomew spent his life working on the popular British daily newspaper, the Daily Mirror. As its editor, he turned it into a mass-circulation tabloid paper with a readership of almost 4.5 million, then the largest in the world. He was chairman of both the Daily Mirror and the Sunday Pictorial companies, 1944–51.

Bartholomew joined the Daily Mirror in 1904, shortly after the paper's foundation. An outstanding popular journalist, he rose quickly from the engraving department to become a director of the paper at age 28. In 1934 he became its editor. At his instigation, the Mirror company acquired the periodical Reveille, which subsequently gained a circulation of 3,000,000.
