Bartoletti, Bruno (1926– )

Italian conductor and flautist. He made his debut with Verdi's Rigoletto at Florence in 1953, and was musical director of the Rome opera 1965–73, and of the Maggio Musicale Orchestra 1957–64. He made his US debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1965 and was appointed artistic director there in 1975. He was artistic director of the Maggio Musicale Opera 1986–91. He has given the premieres of operas by Malipiero, Mortari, and Ginastera, and has recorded Verdi and Puccini (a video of Tosca was produced in 1976).
