Bermejo, Bartolomé (lived 15th century)

Spanish painter. He was one of the most powerful of the Spanish ‘primitives’. He worked in Zaragoza and Barcelona, producing altarpieces influenced by Flemish examples but with an individual realism. Principal works are St Dominic of Silos Enthroned (1474-77, Prado, Madrid) and his Pietà (1490, Barcelona Cathedral).
