Barton, Glenys

    0.03 sec.

Barton, Glenys (1944– )

English sculptor. While artist-in-residence at the Wedgwood factory 1976–77, she experimented with clay and ceramic figure design techniques. Showing particular interest in the shape of the skull, many of her heads are portraits given a timeless quality by the removal of hair and avoidance of facial details. Unusual effects on the smooth clays of her complete heads and more recent relief profiles are achieved by the use of a wide variety of glazes.

Barton was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. She was trained at the Royal College

of Art and began exhibiting in 1973.
