BIOS

Part of a computer's operating system that handles the basic input and output operation for standard computer hardware. For example, the BIOS reads the keystrokes from the keyboard, puts information on the display, and sends information to the printer. The small computer programs within the BIOS that carry out these tasks are called device drivers.
