Bassa, Ferrer

    0.01 sec.

Bassa, Ferrer (1290–1348)

Spanish painter of the early Catalan School. He is known by his one surviving work, the fresco decoration of the chapel of the Franciscan convent of Pedralbes, painted for the king of Aragón 1345–46. The style of these frescoes (discovered early in the 20th century) shows him to be a follower of the Sienese artist Simone Martini.

It is likely that he was trained in Italy or was acquainted with Sienese art as represented in Avignon, then the papal headquarters (where Martini had worked and where he died 1344).
