Bassett, Charles Arthur, II (1931-1966)

US astronaut. Selected as pilot of the spacecraft Gemini 9, he was killed when a T-38 jet aircraft crashed on 28 February 1966, before the craft's launch, scheduled for June 1966. Bassett was selected as an astronaut in 1963. His earlier work at NASA had involved him in training and flight simulation.
