Bassett, John Spencer

Bassett, John Spencer (1867–1928)

US historian. His publications include The Life of Andrew Jackson 1911, A Short History of the United States 1913, and The Lost Fruits of Waterloo 1918.

Bassett was born in Tarboro, North Carolina. He was professor of American history at Smith College, Massachusetts, 1906–14, when he became head of the college's history department, holding this post until 1928. He also wrote many books dealing with the history of his native state.
