Bassett, Leslie (1923– )

US composer. He studied with Ross Lee Finney, Nadia Boulanger, and Mario Davidovsky (electronic music); from 1952 he has taught at the University of Michigan, as professor since 1977. His works are clearly constructed and convey a strong spiritual content.

variations for orchestra (Pulitzer Prize 1966); Echoes from an Invisible World, for the Bicentennial (1976); concerto for two pianos and orchestra (1976); trombone concerto (1983); From a Source Evolving for orchestra (1986).
