Bastin, Jules (1933– )

Belgian bass. He sang at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, in Brussels, from 1960, and has also sung in London, Chicago, and New York, largely in French repertory, for example Le Prophète, Pelléas et Mélisande, and Benvenuto Cellini. He sang the Banker in the first performance of the three-act version of Berg's Lulu in Paris, in 1979, and his other roles include Osmin, Varlaam, Bartolo, Ochs, and the Grand Inquisitor.
