Batangas

Port and capital of Batangas province on Luzon Island in the Philippines, 90 km/56 mi south of Manila; population (1995) 211,900. Batangas was founded in 1561, and has a considerable trade in local produce, including embroidery, with Manila. There is also trade in agricultural produce and chemicals. There is some fishing and an oil refinery.
