Battleship Potemkin, The

Silent film of 1925 directed by Sergei Eisenstein. The film's narrative concerns the mutiny by the crew of the Potemkin, which sparked off the 1905 Russian revolution. Eisenstein's montage approach to editing heightened the impact of such visually powerful and emotive sequences as that of a massacre on a long flight of steps leading to the harbour in Odessa. Created as communist propaganda, The Battleship Potemkin is considered one of the most influential films of all times.
