Bauer, Marion (1887-1955)

US composer and teacher. She studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris and taught at New York University 1926-51. Her works are often in smaller forms and are neoclassical in spirit. Her books include 20th-Century Music (1933) and How Opera Grew (1955).

Works Piano piano pieces New Hampshire Woods (1921), Sun Splendour (1926, also for orchestra), and Dance Sonata (1932); piano concerto ‘American Youth’ (1943).
