Bawden, Rupert (1958– )

English composer. He studied with Robin Holloway at Cambridge and has played the violin and viola in the London Sinfonietta; he made his debut as a conductor at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1986.

The Angel and the Ship of Death for 13 players (1983, revised 1987); Sunless for ensemble (1984); Seven Songs from the House of Sand for brass quintet (1985); Le Livre de Fauvel for soprano, mezzo-soprano, and 18 players (1986); Dramatic Cantata on the Legend of Apollo and Daphne for violin, cello, and 13 players (1989); Ultimo Scena for chamber ensemble (1989); ballet commission from the Munich Biennale (1990).
