Baytown

Baytown

City in southeastern Texas, 35 km/22 mi east of Houston, across San Jacinto Bay; population (1990) 63,900. Part of the vast Houston port area, in a rich oil- and sulphur-producing region, its petrochemical products include synthetic rubber, carbon black, and ink, and it has oil refineries.

It was formed when Pelly, Goose Creek, and Baytown merged and was incorporated as a city in 1948. Lee College (1934) is here.
