Beard, Mary Ritter (1876-1958)

US historian and social reformer. Beard wrote and lectured on women's contribution society, producing the classic Women as a Force of History in 1946. The themes of her work were later taken up by feminists, but in her lifetime she was overshadowed by her husband, the historian Charles Beard.
