Beardsley, Aubrey Vincent (1872-1898)

English illustrator and leading member of the Aesthetic Movement. His meticulously executed black-and-white drawings show the influence of Japanese prints and French rococo, and also display the sinuous line, asymmetry, and decorative mannerisms of art nouveau. His work was often charged with being grotesque and decadent.
