Beaver Falls

City in western Pennsylvania, 40 km/25 mi northwest of Pittsburgh, on the falls of the Beaver River near its junction with the Ohio River; population (2000) 9,900. In a region of coal mines and natural gas deposits, the city developed as a steel manufacturing centre and now also has a diversity of other products.

Situated on an Indian trail later used by pioneers, Beaver Falls was settled in 1793. Geneva College was founded here in 1848.
