Bechstein

Make of piano named after Carl Bechstein (1826–1900), a German craftsman from Gotha, who set up his business in Berlin in 1853.

The company expanded rapidly, taking advantage of new technological developments, some of which were invented by Steinway. The company was bankrupt in 1993, but was saved by the intervention of the German government. In 2003, Bechstein formed a partnership with Korean musical instrument manufacturer Samick Music Corporation to market their pianos in several overseas markets.
