Beck, Lewis Caleb

Beck, Lewis Caleb (1798–1853)

US physician and scientist, born in Schenectady, New York. Licensed as a physician in 1818, he used his rural travels to collect natural observations. He taught scientific subjects at Rutgers (1830–31, 1838–53) and elsewhere, and wrote various works, including a Gazetteer of Illinois and Missouri (1823).
