Bedford, David (1937– )

English composer, teacher, and one-time member of the pop group The Whole World. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Lennox Berkeley and in Venice, Italy, with Luigi Nono.

Works Opera school operas The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (1976) and The Ragnarok (1983); The Camlann Game (1987), The Return of Odysseus (1988), Anna (1993).

Orchestral symphony for 12 players, Sun Paints Rainbows on the Vast Waves (1982), Seascapes (1986), The Transfiguration (1988), Frameworks (1990), Plymouth Town (1992).

Vocal Star Clusters, Nebulae and Places in Devon for chorus and brass (1971); I am Going Home with Thee for six women's voices and strings (1993).

Other Toccata for Tristan for brass (1989); Allison's Concerto for trumpet and strings (1993); many pieces for instrumental ensemble and voices and instruments.
