Bedingfield, Daniel (1979- )

New Zealand-born English R&B artist. His combination of dance anthems and love ballads are influenced by pop, funk, garage, and R&B styles. His single ‘Gotta Get Thru This’, produced by the independent label Relentless Records, went straight to number one on the British singles chart in 2001. After signing to Polydor UK, he released the albums Gotta Get Thru This (2002) followed by Second First Impression, featuring the single ‘Nothing Hurts Like Love’ (2004).

As a teenager, he started the band DNA Algorhythm with his sister Natasha Bedingfield, who also became a successful solo artist.

He was born in Auckland, New Zealand but grew up in Lewisham, southeast London. He started writing his own songs at the age of six. He first recorded his hit ‘Gotta Get Thru This’ in his bedroom, using a microphone plugged into his computer. Other hits from the album Gotta Get Thru This include ‘James Dean: I Wanna Know’ and ‘If You're Not the One’. In 2004 he collaborated with US singer and guitarist Lenny Kravitz on US singer Lionel Richie's album Just for You (2004) and earned the 2004 Brit Award for Best Male Solo Artist. He also made headlines for surviving a near-fatal car crash in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2004.
