Bedingfield, Natasha (1981– )

English pop star. Her brand of pop is infused with hip-hop, R&B, and funk influences, revealing a confident range of style but remaining mainstream. Her debut album Unwritten (2004) featured the singles ‘These Words’, a catchy R&B hit that topped UK singles charts on its release, and the more rock-based hit ‘Single’.

She grew up in southeast London, England, the daughter of New Zealand-born parents. As teenagers she and her sister Nicola joined her brother Daniel to form the band DNA Algorhythm. Daniel Bedingfield went on to have his own successful recording career, releasing his first album in 2002. She studied art and psychology before turning to singing and songwriting full time. After signing with BMG's Phonogenic label, she worked with high-profile songwriters such as Paul Herman (who co-wrote Dido's song ‘Thank You’) and producers such as Guy Chambers (who has written and recorded with Robbie Williams) to create her first album.
