Bedser, Alec Victor (1918– )

English cricketer. A right-arm seam bowler renowned for his accuracy, he took 236 Test wickets at an average of 24.89 between 1946 and 1955. During the 1953 Ashes series, in which he took 39 Australian wickets, he passed Clarrie Grimmett as the most prolific wicket-taker in Test cricket. He played for Surrey 1939–60 and was a crucial member of the side that won seven consecutive county championships between 1952 and 1958. He was knighted for services to cricket in 1996.
