Beecher, Lyman

Beecher, Lyman (1775–1863)

US Congregational and Presbyterian minister, one of the most popular pulpit orators of his time. He was the father of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher.

As a pastor in Connecticut and Boston, he preached against Unitarianism and Roman Catholicism and contributed to the development of the New Haven theology of evangelical Calvinism.
