Beirer, Hans (1911-1993)

Austrian tenor. He made his debut at Linz in 1936, and sang at the Berlin Städtischen Oper 1945-58 and later with the Stuttgart Company. He appeared at Bayreuth from 1958 as Parsifal, Tristan, and Tannhäuser. He sang Siegfried at the Paris Opéra in 1955 and was often heard at the Vienna Staatsoper: he appeared in the first performances of Einem's Der Besuch der alten Dame (1971) and Kabale und Liebe (1976). In 1981 he sang Aegisthus in the film version of Elektra.
