Bell, Charles Frederic Moberly

Bell, Charles Frederic Moberly (1847–1911)

English journalist, born in Egypt. He helped to found the Egyptian Gazette in 1880 and became known as a correspondent for The Times during the nationalist revolt under Ahmed Arabi in 1882. In 1890 he returned to England as manager of The Times, succeeding J C McDonald. In 1908 he became managing director of the reconstructed Times Publishing Company.

His enterprises included The Times Atlas (1895), The History of the South African War (1900–09), and The Times Book Club (1905).
