Bellamy, David James

Bellamy, David James (1933– )

English naturalist and environmental campaigner who has presented many television programmes. He has also published several books, including The Mouse Book (1993), The Queen's Hidden Garden (1984), and Bellamy's Changing Countryside (1988).

His first appearance on television was in 1970, with Life in Our Sea. Other television series include Bellamy on Botany (1973), Bellamy's Britain (1975), Bellamy's Europe (1977), Bellamy's Bugle (1986–88), Bellamy on Top of the World (1987), Bellamy Rides Again (1992), and Bellamy's Border Raids (1996).

He was educated at the Chelsea College of Science and Technology, and Bedford College, London University. Between 1960 and 1980, he was senior lecturer in botany at Durham University. He was made special professor of botany at the University of Nottingham in 1987. He is a director of the Conservation Foundation and is involved with environmental and botanical organisations.
