Bellanca, Dorothy (1894-1946)

Latvian-born labour leader and social reformer. Bellanca emigrated to the USA in 1900, and went to work in a factory when she was 13-years old. She became an organizer for the United Garment Workers of America, leading a strike in 1912. A founder of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America in 1914, she devoted 30 years to organizing campaigns and strikes.
