Bellany, John

    0.06 sec.

Bellany, John (1942- )

Scottish painter and printmaker. He is best known for large expressionistic figure compositions, brightly coloured and vigorously handled, for example The Obsession (1966) and Time and the Raven (1982). Often they have imagery taken from the sea, reflecting his upbringing in a Scottish fishing village. He has also painted numerous portraits, and in the 1990s he began making coloured etchings.
