Belleau, Rémy (c. 1528-1577)

French poet, a member of the Pléiade group. The poems in Amours et nouveaux eschanges des pierres précieuses/Love Poems and New Exchanges of Precious Stones (1576) describe the properties of precious stones. Belleau's chief work is La Bergerie/Pastorale (1565), a prose and verse pastoral; it includes the poem ‘Avril/April’.
