Bellefontaine

City and administrative headquarters of Logan County in west-central Ohio, 74 km/46 mi northwest of Columbus; population (2000) 13,100. Set in a fertile area that raises wheat, soybeans, and livestock, it is a regional trade and rail centre. Products include electric motors, circuit breakers, and aluminium extrusions.

Bellefontaine was settled in the early 19th century on the site of a Shawnee village and was named after the many natural springs in the area. The first concrete street in the USA was laid here in 1891.
