Bellugi, Piero (1924– )

Italian conductor. He studied in Europe and at Tanglewood, Massachusetts. He was musical director of the Oakland and Portland Symphony Orchestras 1955–61, and permanent conductor of the RAI Orchestra at Turin. He was a guest conductor at La Scala, Milan, from 1961 (making his debut with Handel's Xerxes) and in Vienna, Rome, Paris, and Berlin. His concert repertory includes Mahler and Schoenberg.
