Belmar

Town in east-central New Jersey, 5 km/3 mi southwest of Asbury Park, between the Shark River and the Atlantic Ocean; population (1990) 5,900. A summering place for the Delaware American Indians and later the Dutch, it is now one of the Jersey shore's leading resorts, with a summer population of about 50,000.

South Belmar (population (1990) 1,500) and West Belmar (population (1990) 2,500) are adjacent.
