Belohlávek, Jiří (1946- )

Czech conductor. He studied in Prague with Celibidache and was conductor of the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra 1971-77, chief conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra 1977-90, principal of the Czech Philharmonic 1990-92, and principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1995. He has been a guest conductor with the Berlin and New York Philharmonics, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He led music by Mahler and Zemlinsky with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at the 1993 Promenade Concerts in London.
