Beloretsk

City in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation, situated in the southern Urals 106 km/66 mi northwest of Magnitogorsk; population (2001 est) 73,400. The city was founded in 1762, one of the earliest mining settlements in the region, and is still a major centre for iron and steel production.
