Belovo

Town in Kemerovo oblast of the Russian Federation, in southwestern Siberia, 140 km/87 mi south of Kemerovo; population (2001 est) 79,800. Located in the highly industrialized Kuznetsk Basin, it has coalmines, a zinc smelter (built 1931), and other industries. Nearby is the Belovo thermal power station.
