Belper

Market town in Derbyshire, England; population (2001) 21,900. It is situated on the River Derwent, 11 km/7 mi north of Derby. Belper's main industries are its cotton mills and hosiery factories. The first cotton mill in Belper was opened by Richard Arkwright and Jedediah Strutt in 1776.
