Belton

City in west-central Missouri, 19 km/12 mi south of Kansas City; population (1990) 18,200. It is a residential suburb and agricultural trade centre.

It was the home for some years of the US temperance agitator Carry Nation (1846–1911).

Belton

City and administrative headquarters of Bell County in central Texas, 14 km/9 mi west of Temple; population (1990) 12,500. It manufactures furniture, farm implements, and insulation materials. It is the seat of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, founded in 1845.

The city of Belton was founded in 1850, and is historically a farm and ranch trade centre. Belton Lake, a recreational asset, is to the north; Fort Hood is to the northwest.
