Boltraffio (or Beltraffio), Giovanni Antonio (1467–1516)

Milanese painter. A pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, he painted religious subjects and portraits. The Casio Madonna (1500, Louvre, Paris) includes an angel musician which, according to a later tradition, was painted by Leonardo himself.

Boltraffio came from a distinguished Milanese family and for most of his life occupied various civic offices in Milan.
