Belturbet

Market town in County Cavan, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 1,300. Situated on the River Erne, 16 km/10 mi northwest of Cavan town, Belturbet is a centre for boating and coarse fishing.

The ruins of Drumlane Abbey, originally founded in the 6th century, are 6 km/4 mi south of Belturbet. A 14th-century church and round tower 14 m/45 ft high can still be seen here.
