Belvedere House

Irish villa dating from about 1740, near Mullingar, County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland. It was designed by Richard Castle for Robert Rochfield, afterwards the 1st Earl of Belvedere. It contains Rococo plasterwork thought to be by Bartholomew Cramillion, whose work is also in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. In the grounds is the largest Gothic sham ruin in Ireland, known as the Jealous Wall. It was built about 1760 by Lord Belvedere and was supposedly intended to obscure the view of the property belonging to his brother, whom he suspected was his wife's lover.
