BangaloreCapital of Karnataka state, southern India, lying 950 m/3,000 ft above sea level; population (2001 est) 4,292,200. Industries include electronics, aircraft, railway-carriage, and machine-tools construction, as well as the manufacture of electrical goods and the processing of coffee. Bangalore University and the University of Agriculture Sciences were founded in 1964, and the National Aeronautical Institute in 1960.
