Bennettsville

City and administrative headquarters of Marlboro County in northeastern South Carolina, 48 km/30 mi northeast of Florence; population (1990) 9,300. Laid out in 1818 as the trade centre of a fertile agricultural region, it now also manufactures textiles and wood products.
