Benoni

Industrial city in Gauteng Province, South Africa, 27 km/17 mi east of Johannesburg; population (1991) 114,000. It was founded in 1903 as a gold-mining centre. It is the ‘garden town’ of the Rand with many tree-lined avenues and parks. Industries include motor-vehicle components manufacturing and gold mining.
