bentwood

Type of furniture, originally made by steam-heating and then bending rods of wood to form panels. Initially a country style, it was patented in the early 19th century in the USA. Twentieth-century designers such as Marcel Breuer and Alvar Aalto have developed a different form by bending sheets of plywood.
