Berdyaev, Nikolai Alexandrovich (1874–1948)Russian philosopher who often challenged official Soviet viewpoints after the Revolution of 1917. Although appointed professor of philosophy in 1919 at Moscow University, he was exiled in 1922 for defending Orthodox Christian religion.
